“Pakistan is back in business” -H.E. Ambassador Jauhar Saleem

On the 22nd November 2016, the Honorary Consulate of Pakistan was honoured to be able to welcome H.E. Mr. Jauhar Saleem, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany, who was on an official visit to christmassy Munich. The days were packed with meetings and discussions during which H.E. Saleem kept emphasizing that bilateral relations between Pakistan and Germany need to increased. He also stressed that German investment in Pakistan needs to inflate in order to transfer and substritute businesses between Bavaria and Pakistan. Visiting the Hanns Seidel Foundation On 23rd of November H.E. Jauhar Saleem visited the Hanns Seidel Foundation where he was warmly welcomed by Chairwoman, Professor Ursula Maennle, a Former Minister of the State of Bavaria and Former Chair of the EU Affairs Committee (CSU) of the State Parliament of Bavaria, Germany. Professor Maennle informed the Ambassador about foundation operations in Pakistan and she expressed her concerns regarding the registration of foundations in Pakistan. Ambassador Jauhar Saleem ensured the Chairperson that he will take care of that matter personally. Open discussion about relation between Pakistan and Germany After the meeting with the Representatives of the Hanns Seidel Foundation an open discussion with selected Students and Politicians was held. The discussion canvassed the relationship between Pakistan and Germany where the Ambassador briefed about the current political and economical situation in Pakistan. Here the social, political and economical relations of the two countries were reviewed. Meeting Munich’s Lord Mayor Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter and H.E. the Ambassador agreed on exchanging delegations to strengthen bilateral ties. Afterwards Munich’s economical contribution to the free state of Bavaria and Germany in general was discussed. Round Table Pakistan On the special occasion of the Ambassador’s visit a Round Table was organized by the Unicredit bank and the Honorary Consulate of Pakistan for Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg. Here trading and investment opportunities in Pakistan were being discussed as tremendous business opportunities have been created by Chinese investment of more than 50 billion US-Dollars in the CPEC, the China – Pakistan Economic Corridor. Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Defence Production embraces German On September 22, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain welcomed Consul Dr. Poetis in the Ministerial Building. The Ministry is in charge of several state-owned manufacturing facilities and supports Pakistan’s Armed Forces with import and export related matters. Minister Hussain stated a keen interest in determining the potential for technological transfer by German cooperation partners. The opportunity of establishing joint ventures between Pakistani and German corporations represented by the POWERGROUP was discussed in particular. SAIF Group to expand cooperation with German companies In March of this year, the POWERGROUP’s CEO Dr. Poetis was invited by the board members of the Islamabad-based SAIF Group to present the concept ‘Made in Pakistan with German Engineering’. The SAIF Group is one of the leading industrial and services conglomerates of Pakistan, with particular emphasis on telecommunications, textiles, real estate development, and more recently oil and gas exploration. Based on Dr. Poetis’ recommendation, the SAIF Group subsequently extended their cooperation with German manufacturers and launched negotiations with further German companies introduced by the POWERGROUP. Anwar Saifullah Khan, Co-Chairman of the SAIF Group, took the opportunity of the meeting on September 23 to emphasise the regulatory, political and social context of Pakistan‘s business environment which enables to successfully operate joint ventures in Pakistan and sets the groundwork to enhance the German-Pakistan business relationship. Pakistan’s premier logistics and construction organization On the same day, Dr. Poetis was invited to meet Lt. General Javed Mahmood Bukhari, Officer in Charge at National Logistics Cell (NLC) of Pakistan. Dr. Poetis expressed his gratitude towards Lt. General Bukhari and his staff for this rare opportunity to visit the NLC premises. Lt. General Bukhari and Dr. Poetis discussed current and future logistics and construction projects which will further strengthen Pakistan’s position as geo-strategic hub and economic link to China. Moreover, do these projects provide cooperation opportunities for international development partners. A delegation of the Pakistani army visited the historical Olympic Shooting Range in Garching-Munich which hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics. Brig. Iqbal and Lt. Col. Grand cultural extravaganza and reception on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr at Maritim Hotel, Berlin

The Embassy of Pakistan organized a grand cultural extravagnza and reception on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr at Maritim Hotel, Berlin. The event comprised a Fashion Exhibition, a concert by Mr. Farhan Saeed and a painting exhibition. Speaker of the National Assembly, HE Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was the chief guest. The participants, more than a six hundred in number, included parliamentarians, diplomats, senior officials, prominent businessperson, fashion designers, artists, academicians, universities students , Pakistani diaspora and a large number of German and Pakistani media. Ambassador Jauhar Saleem in his opening remarks welcomed the guests and highlighted Pakistan’s rich history and culture. He also touched upon the dynamism of the youth of Pakistan which was not well understood in the west. The main attraction of the mega cultural event was showcasing of the haute couture heritage of pakistan. Top designers including Hasan Sheheryar Yasin, Fahad Hussayn, Maheen Khan ( Gulabo ), Maheen Adnan (Eclat) and Kuki Concepts show cased their collection. 125.7m euro for Pakistan

Germany agreed on Friday to provide €125.7 million ($138.3m) in various sectors including health, energy, and technical and vocational training. A ceremony was held in this regard at the Ministry of Finance where Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Tariq Bajwa and Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan Ina Lepel signed four agreements. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, who was also present on the occasion, said that out of total assistance, €98.7m was a grant while the remaining €27m would be in shape of soft loan. Acknowledging the role of Germany in helping Pakis­tan achieve sustainable socio-eco­nomic objectives, Mr Dar said Islamabad valued the relationship dating back to 1961. He emphasised the need to increase bilateral cooperation in trade, energy and social sectors, and more people-to-people contacts. Economy Talks: Investment opportunities in Sindh, Pakistan – 22nd April, 2016

Munich, 22nd April – The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology and the Honorary Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg hosted a business conference to introduce the Sindh market to German companies. Over 90 participants from different sectors including energy, telecom, textile, automotive, mining, pharmaceutical and agriculture attended the conference. Ms. Naheed Memon, Chairperson Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) headed the Sindh delegation. Additional Chief Secretary Planning & Development Sindh, Muhammad Waseem, Finance Secretary Sindh, Sohail Rajput and Secretary Energy Sindh, Agha Wasif Abbas were part of the delegation. Ulrich Konstantin Rieger, Senior Ministerial Counsellor formally welcomed the Sindh delegation and German businessmen to the Bavarian Ministry. Consul Dr. Poetis gave a brief presentation about the investment opportunities and advantages of the geostrategic location of Pakistan. He introduced the concept Made in Pakistan with German Engineering to the audience and explained that German companies could benefit from the advantages of Pakistan’s vast labour force, growing internal market and the large infrastructure investment of 46 billion dollars by the Chinese government. Pakistan could also become a major logistic hub for German companies, given its geostrategic position, which enables immediate access to 3bn people in the neighbouring countries and the Arab region. Chairperson SBI Ms Naheed assured the company representatives regarding provision of all facilities for investment in Sindh. She emphasized that the Sindh government was giving valuable incentives to international companies for investment in Sindh in energy and other sectors. Mr. Schmiedchen, German Consul General in Karachi, assured the German companies that if any German company seeks to invest in Sindh, the German Consulate in Karachi would provide them full support. Helmut von Struve, Chief Executive Officer Siemens Pakistan, Tayyab Tareen, Chief Executive Officer K-Electric and Shamsuddin Shaikh, Chief Executive Officer Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company shared their successful business stories with the participants. Mr. Jauhar Saleem, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Germany, briefed the audience about the positive steps in shape of benefits, which are taken by the democratically elected Pakistani government to attract foreign investors. Pakistan is home to around 1,000 multinational businesses. Ambassador Saleem further said, “in terms of investment opportunities, Pakistan is one of those regions of the world, which are the most dynamic in terms of economy’’ and pointed out that German companies are particularly welcome to benefit from the strong market growth opportunities.
